What type of jewelry is best for a conch piercing?
There are two types of piercing: inner or outer.
Depending on your ear’s shape, a stud may look best on the higher fold and a hoop on the lower. Or you might enjoy a shiny stud peeking out of the lower cartilage.
In any case, it’s essential to know what gauge you need. Although most conch piercings are 16 gauge, that’s not always true.
Also, you need to measure hoops to make sure they will fit. Most are at least 10 to 12 millimeters in diameter.
But your original conch piercing will probably have a bar, not a ring, in it.
I recommend that you start with titanium, niobium, surgical steel, or gold jewelry while the piercing heals. They are the least likely to cause an allergic reaction, and they won’t turn your skin green.
Also, get a piercing retainer in case you need to remove the jewelry for an extended amount of time. The hole may begin to close in as little as an hour. Should you ever need to get an MRI, you’ll have to remove the metal and replace it with a plastic or glass retainer.
How to take care of a conch piercing
As mentioned above, you can help the piercing heal faster with hypoallergenic metal jewelry.
Titanium and surgical steel are excellent choices.
Niobium is difficult to find (and it’s technically not a metal).
Gold is beautiful, but may trigger allergies for some people. It’s best to go with gold-colored titanium in its place.
It’s going to take at least 6 months, and possibly 9 months, for the conch piercing to heal. You’ll need to clean it at least twice a day with mild soap or salt water during that time.
Try not to touch the piercing often, and wash your hands before you do. At least you don’t have to rotate it like an earlobe piercing stud.
You won’t be able to sleep on that side for months, and you won’t be able to enjoy earbuds. You’ll need a pair of over the ear headphones instead.
During the first couple of days, it will be tender. It may leak fluid as well.
But later, if the piercing swells, turns red, and leaks pus, please seek medical attention.
What are the different types of conch piercing jewelry?
You might prefer a conch stud with a flat back (also known as labret) right at the beginning while the piercing heals. Studs are appropriate for the inner and outer conch.
Later, take a look at and decorative curved studs for the inner conch. This is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry for curated ears.
Also, barbells are popular. You can get them straight, curved, or circular. The circular ones are just like comfortable hoops.
Remember that the length of straight barbells and studs matters. If they’re too long, they’ll move around a lot and feel uncomfortable while you sleep. The typical size is about 6 mm.
Conch piercing hoops come in several styles. One is the captive bead ring. Another is the clicker ring with a hinged clasp. You’ll see them all in the reviews below.
Best Jewelry for Conch Piercing
Choose from captive bead rings, hoops, clickers, and more to highlight a conch piercing.
FIBO STEEL 9 Pcs Rose Gold Stainless Steel 16g Cartilage Hoop Earrings
There’s nothing like a simple rose gold hoop to accentuate the curve of the ear.
This package contains 9 hoops. All of them are 316L stainless steel that shouldn’t trigger metal allergies.
Each is a clicker with a flexible hinge.
They come with a 180-day money-back guarantee.
FIFTH CUE Hematite Captive Bead Ring 316L Surgical Steel
When you see 316L surgical steel jewelry, you can rest easy knowing that it’s hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. It won’t turn green or tarnish, either.
Here is a gorgeous steel ring with a captive bead made of hematite. It comes in 14, 16, and 18 gauge sizes.
It’s also available in a variety of diameters. Choose from 10, 11, and 12 mm for a typical conch piercing.
EllieJMaui Rose Gold Ear Cuff – For Pierced or Non-Pierced – Ear Conch Piercing
What if you’re not sure about getting pierced? Then give this unique earring a try. The open-ended hoop works whether you have a piercing or not.
It’s a 10-millimeter rose gold ring. It’s not plated – it’s filled with 14 karat gold. It’s 1 mm thick wire, which is 16 gauge.
(Oddly enough, the smaller the gauge number, the thicker the wire. Therefore, 18 gauge is thinner than 16 gauge).
The ends of the ring are rounded by hand so that they won’t poke the skin.
It comes with a complimentary polishing pad and a recipe for a DIY non-toxic cleaning solution.
Bling Piercing 2 PC Horseshoe Barbell Conch Jewelry
Circular barbells like these are very comfortable to wear. To insert them, all you have to do is unscrew the ball on the end.
They are 16 gauge with a 12 mm diameter. The balls are 3 mm in diameter. At this size, you can also use them for daith, helix, septum, rook, and smiley piercings.
Although they are golden, they’re actually made from surgical steel that’s free of lead and nickel. They are resistant to corrosion and safe for sensitive skin. They won’t tarnish, either.
The package includes a silk pouch for storage or gift presentation.
PiercedPretty Feather Conch Chain Earring
This jewelry reminds me of Native American culture. There’s a feather dangling from a chain. The design is perfect for conch and helix piercings.
You can pick from bronze, gold, or silver colors. They are 16 gauge in thickness and come in 10 or 12 mm diameters. The manufacturer allows you to request a custom size if desired.
There is a catch, however. Although the bar and chain are surgical steel, the feather is zinc alloy.
OUFER Cartilage Earring Hoop 16G Stainless Steel with Opal
It’s hard to resist a beautiful opal hoop like this one.
You can get it in white, pink, or blue.
The base is 16 gauge surgical steel, which is 1.2 mm in thickness. The diameter is 12 mm, which is ideal for most conch piercings.
16G Triple Double Stacked Cartilage Conch Earring
Who can resist sparkly cubic zirconia embedded in shiny rose gold?
This 10 mm conch ring has a clicker closure. It’s straightforward to put on and take off.
But don’t be fooled by the color – the material is actually 316L surgical steel. It has no nickel or lead that could harm sensitive ears.
OUFER Titanium G23 Conch Ring with Clear CZ
Although I’m a fan of artisanal handmade piercing jewelry, I don’t always have the budget for it. I’m glad there are inexpensive earrings like this one, too.
It’s made of G23 titanium, which is safe, but not implant-grade. Hence the lower cost.
With the hinge closure, it’s easy to put on. The sturdy metal won’t deform over time. And the 16 gauge size with a 12 mm diameter makes it perfect for a conch piercing.
You can get extra mileage out of it by wearing it in a helix or daith piercing.
Moreover, the company offers a satisfaction guarantee.
FANSING 2pcs Grade 23 Titanium Body Piercing Ring
As the listing points out, titanium grade 23 is hypoallergenic, but not the same as solid implant-grade titanium. If you are sensitive to certain metals, your skin may react to it all the same.
What’s nice about this set is that it features two rings, not just one. The hoops are 14 gauge, however. That might be thicker than your piercing, so be careful.
But the 12 mm diameter is a common size for conch, helix, and other types of piercings.
Choose from rose gold, yellow gold, and silver colors.
SCERRING 3 PCS 14G Stainless Steel Hinged Clicker Hoop
If you have a 14 gauge conch piercing, check out this set of 3 clicker rings.
Although they are black, silver, and rose gold, they are all hypoallergenic stainless steel.
Each one has a 12 mm interior diameter.
The set comes with a 90-day money-back guarantee.
PjCreationsStudio Conch Clicker
This made-to-order conch ring is available in 14, 16, or 18 gauge thicknesses. You can also choose from 7, 8, 10, 12, or 14 mm diameters.
Each one is handcrafted in Ukraine by Slava, an experienced artisan.
The hoops are made from surgical-grade steel in silver, yellow gold, or rose gold colors.
Although you might have to wear a stud while your piercing heals, this style is also trendy for both inner and outer conch piercings.
NellySteelPiercing Cartilage Earring Stud
You can order custom conch jewelry from this artisan in Ukraine. Take this stainless steel stud, for example.
It’s gold-plated and available in a variety of lengths and thicknesses. The typical size for a conch piercing is 16 gauge, 6 mm long.
Mounted in the middle is a stone. You can pick from cubic zirconia, opal, or turquoise.
As it’s handcrafted and customized, your piercing jewelry will be unlike anyone else’s.
WildKlass 316L Surgical Steel White Daisy Earring
I love this sweet daisy earring with a ball back. It’s crafted from surgical steel and inlaid with white enamel.
The thickness is 16 gauge, and the length is 6 mm, which is suitable for cartilage piercings.
There is something you should know, though. Reviewers say that the silver finish eventually rubs off the flower, so it’s best not to wear it 24/7.
Forbidden Body Jewelry Set of 3 Cartilage Studs
Keeping it simple doesn’t mean being boring. The set comes with rose gold-plated surgical steel studs embedded with cubic zirconia.
The CZ adds significant bling: each gem is 3 mm in size.
Meanwhile, each stud is 16 gauge and 6 mm long. They fit conch, tragus, and helix piercings.
WildKlass Jewelry Stainless Steel Nautical Anchor Cartilage Earring
I’m sure you can think of all the places you’d like to wear this gleaming anchor.
The stud is made of 316L stainless steel to prevent allergic reactions. It’s 16 gauge thick and 6 mm long.
The anchor itself is 10 mm in size.
Curve Seven Stud CZ Stud Earrings
Curved studs like these are very attractive. They have an intricate design inlaid with cubic zirconia.
The post size is 16gauge, 6 mm long.
Although all styles are crafted from surgical stainless steel, you can choose from white, purple, pink, or rose gold stones.
LOYALLOOK 4 Pcs CZ Barbell Stainless Steel Stud Body Piercing Jewelry 16G
If you have multiple piercings, or you want to change your look more often, a set like this comes in handy. It includes four studs with different designs.
You can get them in yellow gold, rose gold, or silver tone. Plus, you can choose from cubic zirconia or opal inlays.
The company offers a 240-day money-back guarantee.
GAGABODY G23 Titanium Blue Opal Labret Stud 6mm
Flat-backed studs like these are comfortable for a conch piercing. But these aren’t just cozy to wear, they’re also attractive.
There are several styles to choose from, including opal and cubic zirconia stones. Each one is made from grade 23 titanium with a 16 gauge thickness.
vcmart 16G Clear Acrylic Bioflex Retainer
When you need to take out your piercing jewelry, you need to keep the hole open somehow. Otherwise, the skin will close up in an hour or two.
Perhaps you have a job interview, a family party, or a medical procedure coming up. Plan ahead by getting a transparent acrylic retainer. It keeps the piercing open until you can put your jewelry back in again.
It’s available in several sizes, including 16 gauge.
It’s time to express yourself with gorgeously-curated ears.
Highlight your conch piercing with the best jewelry for your style and personality.
But be careful, you’re likely to love it so much you end up with more piercings soon.
